LOUMIDIS FAMILY

Beginning of the 20th century, three young brothers (Antony, Nikos and Jason) decide to leave their small hometown of Karistos in Evia island and move to the capital of Greece searching for a better future.

Without any funds but with great courage and desire for work, they open a small operation in Piraeus with borrowed money from friends and relatives.

Little by little they increase the inventory of the store by adding whatever product their customers were requesting. Coffee was amongst the most popular items.

The neighborhood rewarded the young entrepreneurs for their kindness and their honesty and business was growing and flourishing. Soon they started distributing their products - something innovating for those days - by using first a horse chariot then bicycles and trucks.

A second bigger coffee store in Piraeus, another one  in Athens, a fourth in Salonika and a distribution network  in all major Greek cities marked the remarkable expansion of the "Loumidis" family.

The brand name of their coffee "PAPAGALOS" became synonymous to coffee and the "Loumidis" name a guaranty of quality.

During second world war almost everything was destroyed and the three brothers had to start again with whatever was saved. Cocoa and Chocolate was the next project. A modern factory was built in 1956 and the consumers reacted very positive to this new diversification.

Headquarter offices with warehouse space and a new Coffee plant in 1974 came as an additional expansion of the Loumidis big investment project. The collaboration with multinational company NESTLE in 1987 was a necessary step in order to secure the future of the Loumidis name and the quality of its products on today's most competitive environment.

And this fascinating story... continues!

LOUMIDIS FOODS

The incorporation of Loumidis Foods Inc. in 1992 and the opening of a small office in Flushing, New York, marked the beginning of the Loumidis family expansion to the USA and Canada.

The traditional Greek coffee PAPAGALOS Loumidis was the initial step to approach the “Ethnic” market.  The success of this project encouraged other important Greek food companies to entrust the distribution of their branded products to Loumidis Foods Inc., on an exclusive basis.

Very soon it became necessary to move to a new warehouse in Astoria, New York, in order to provide better service to the customers and create additional space and facilities to accommodate new products. The main target of the company was to introduce the undisputable quality of the Greek agricultural products to the American and Canadian markets.

Olive Oil, Olives, Roasted Red Peppers, Peaches, Balsamic vinegar and many others, were packed under the “Loumidis” brand name and exported to the USA and Canada.

Foodservice was the next step. Gyro products and Pita bread, based on traditional recipes and produced under the supervision of the company were very well accepted by the push carts, cafes, diners, restaurants and catering companies.

Greek yogurt and a big variety of local and imported cheeses were added to the product range which is constantly growing with the addition of selected quality food products from all over the world.

The participation of the company in the most important Food Shows gave the opportunity to consumers to test, appreciate  and confirm the unique quality of the Loumidis products.

Loumidis Foods Inc., operates an extensive sales network with experienced salesmen, ex-van distribution, local distributers and brokers.
