Produced by the 120 year old Stoupakis Distillery on the island of Chios, MASTIH2O waters are a refreshing sparkling water with light hints of natural flavors found on the island.

All products contain Mastiha oils. Mastiha is the natural resin of the Pistacia Lentiscus var. Chia, an evergreen bush found ONLY in the southern part of the Greek island of Chios in the Aegean. At one point, mastiha resin was worth its weight in gold. The harvesting process of mastiha, known as “Kentos”, is passed on from one generation of cultivators to the next.

Mastiha has been known since antiquity for its healing properties:

• HIPPOCRATES (4th century BC)
  used mastiha for stomach aches and to fight the flu by mixing mastiha with honey.
• DIOSCURIDES (1st century BC)
  used mastiha for aid to the digestive system.
• REBASIUS, SORANOS THE EPHESIAN, ETIUS MEDICUS, SCRIBONIUS LARGUS
  all suggested numerous remedies using mastiha.

The other flavored products contain mastiha as well as Mandarin or Rose. The glass bottles help to preserve the effervescent qualities of this lightly carbonated water to a shelf life of 18 months The design of the glass bottle is reminiscent of the unique architectural engraving motif found within the village of Pyrgi in Chios.
