Nounos Creamery Partnering with Loumidis Foods

NEW YORK – Co-founded by Steven Ioannou and his Nouno (Godfather) John Belesis, Nounos Creamery, the brand known for having the only FDA approved cheesecloth strained Greek yogurt in the U.S., has partnered with Loumidis Foods to expand its supply into foodservices such as restaurants and cafes across the Northeast as well as other parts of the U.S. and Canada through distributors and direct pick up.

Nounos Creamery will be providing Loumidis Foods’ customers a variety of its small batch, handcrafted yogurts including a 10LB 10% milk fat plain, a 10LB 5% milk fat plain and its 10LB 5% milkfat vanilla. Each of these offerings are perfectly crafted to be included in delicious entrees, desserts, and sauces.

The partnership is a natural fit for each brand, as both Loumidis Foods and Nounos Creamery are deeply rooted in Greek tradition. The collaboration exemplifies each company’s belief in innovative ideas that preserve the classic preparations of products, with modern sustainable packaging for today’s marketplace.

The National Herald spoke with John Belesis Co-Founder of Nounos Creamery about the partnership. “We are so proud to be partnering with Loumidis Foods to expand the distribution of our small batch, premium Greek yogurts into restaurants and cafes in the Northeast,” Belesis told TNH. The value our team puts on creating a product that uses the traditional way of crafting yogurt in Greece is echoed in the care that Loumidis Foods uses to choose their partners and we could not be more excited to be part of their family of offerings.”

According to the Nounos Creamery website, Ioannou and Belesis began experimenting with a yogurt recipe a little less than five years ago. Having spent their summers and college years in the Mediterranean, these Greek-Americans were dissatisfied with the “Greek-style” yogurts available in the States.

As Greek yogurt gained popularity in the U.S., they couldn’t understand why all the so-called “Greek-style” brands lacked the richness and flavor of what we knew and loved while growing up in Greece.  Their search for authentic Greek yogurt grew into an obsession, and they returned to Greece to immerse themselves in learning the traditional, old-world craft of making yogurt or “Yiaourti Sakoulas.” With some ingenuity and a family recipe, the pair created Nounos Creamery and introduced bag strained yogurt to New York in 2013. The thick, velvety rich, all natural yogurt quickly caught on and became a food, fitness, and fashion lover’s favorite.

In January 2017, New York State certified the bag-strained yogurt to be sold outside of the region, and now yogurt lovers from California to Texas, Illinois to West Virginia, and beyond can enjoy the taste of real Greek yogurt.

The partnership also continues Loumidis’ longstanding tradition of working with Greek-American companies and also promoting Greek products and the health benefits of the Greek diet. Chief Executive Officer Iason Loumidis told TNH in a previous interview that Greek yogurt in particular “has become a country ambassador for Greece, whenever the word Greek is used in relation to food, it immediately has a positive perception, because everyone who recognizes and eats Greek yogurt eats it for its health benefits and nutritional value, and because it is a much better product than the usual, non-strained yogurt, so Greek means ‘good’ and ‘high quality’ when it comes to food.”
